This Archdiocesan program embraces a unique mission: to provide appropriate and meaningful experiences of faith formation, sacramental preparation, and worship for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Rosemary Nugent heads this group of volunteers/catechists who give parishioners an inviting place and opportunity to connect with individuals with disabilities, and offers ways to more fully include persons with d intellectual and developmental challenges into our parish assembly of worship through the process of education.
The All Souls SPRED group serves adults ages 22 and older. Other neighboring parishes serve groups for children 6-10 years old, adolescents ages 11-16 and young adults ages 17-21.
No special talents are needed to join the SPRED team, just a kind and loving heart. Each volunteer, called a catechist, is paired with one disabled friend. Together they learn from each other, and experience joy, laughter, prayer, hope and fellowship. Volunteers must be 21. No prior experience with intellectually or developmentally disabled persons is needed. Training is offered every fall and spring. Enrichment is on-going.
